The Doerfel's

Count your many blessings... name them one by one. And it will amaze you what the Lord has done.

Last year when we visited, Sharon told us about a family who played blusgrass music we would love. Alas, we didn't get to see them last year so I was so excited that they were performing at "Boondocks" down on Ramrod Key. Unfortunately, it didn't work out to go. As I mentioned in the last blog, The Doerfels are performing at the Episcopal church BBQ here in Marathon so I called the pastor for details but alas... it's outside and the weather is going to be freezing in the low 60's.

Last Sunday at church, a friend came over to tell us there was a huge RV in the parking lot, "Was it ours?". No, who could it be? Well, it was The Doerfels' RV. I had no idea why they were there and you know how curious I am. Wednesday night, the RV was there again and did God bless us!!! They had come to play for our praise and worship and... stay for Bible Study. Not only did God know I wanted to see them badly but sweetened the blessing by being with them in worship and up close and personal... as they lead us in singing "How great is our God", I can tell you, we just have no concept of how Great He is and how He loves to bless us... and He blessed Doug, our pastor's son who plays professional quality and teaches guitar. Kim Doerfel(18 years old) and Doug (20 years old) sat together during Bible Study(paying attention with their Bibles open)... just match making here!

The Doerfels:

Take 2 parents and 10 kids, put them in a 40-foot RV bus, and send them on the road for 3 years playing their music. What do you get? The Doerfels, an amazing 12 member family bluegrass band, who’ve wowed audiences and impressed critics from Branson, MO up and down the East Coast, to Canada. What makes them remarkable is their average age is 15 years old!

Despite their youth, one Keys reporter has said about their show, “Seasoned musicians watched in awe….” The core band consists of the oldest son and leader TJ, 20 (since the article, TJ has married and has a new baby, Jakob who also attended church), on banjo; Kim, 18, on the fiddle; Eddy, 16, on mandolin; Joey, 14, on bass and cello; and Ben, 13, on guitar. The whole family joins in on certain songs and adds humor to the act, making it entertaining for all ages.

If you like country, gospel, and bluegrass, interspersed with a touch of blues, jazz, swing, and classical, you’ll want to catch this outstanding, young talented band! See why “The Doerfel Family is a force to be reckoned with.”* No strings attached!
