Back to Wanda's Roots Georgia

Monday, July 28th: Life is never dull, is it? I mentioned during the first Friday we were at Twin Lakes RV Park we got one of those GA terrific thunder storms which blew our coach awning including hardware over the roof to the other side of the coach. You remember a nice representative from our insurance, Progressive came out and gave us an estimate with the comments to our repairman, "This is just an estimate, we are flexible and if it runs more just let me know and John from our Gainsville, GA office will run a check down to you". OK, awning installed at a higher cost but trusty rep doesn't return phone calls from Wanda or repairman and/or emails so... Wanda contacts agent in MT and emails all paperwork to him. He shoots off an email and behold we hear from rep right away who said she never received calls or emails O(right) but without certain manufacturers invoices from repairman, Progressive can't pay increase. Wanda sent an email of rebuttal with copies to agent and amazing... it was approved. Why must it be such a challenge to get insurance to pay claims because you know they are going to raise rates and get their money back anyway? Go figure!!!

Wednesday, July 30th: Irv and Wanda visit a new church nearby the campground for Wednesday night Bible Class. The people were very friendly and a lady, Gloria took us under her wing right away to introduce us and escort us to class. It was a good class on "Who are you really?". The answer being "Citizens of Heaven on earth for a short time as ministers". We may be disguised as homemakers, business people, presidents or construction workers but we are really ministers. The teacher told the story of a college senior who worked night and day on his final paper. When he received it back, the professor had written in red at the top... great bibliography, great grammar, great, great, great but wrong assignment.... F. As ministers of heaven, it is so much more important that we are in tune with the right assignment for us on earth than what we "do" as people are prone to ask us. Irv mentioned to one of the fellows that in the Keys our church had meals at every service and was told every other Wednesday is a dinner here. We are looking forward to a Sunday service every other week. Must go with Cam and Grace the other.

Thursday, July 31st: Cam went out of town on business yesterday so Irv and Wanda pick Grace up at school. Wanda takes Irv to the YMCA and Grace to soccer camp. For her age, Grace is just amazing. I know this from having sons and granddaughters who played as well as a great son-in-law from Brazil who is a coach. By the by... his rec team in the keys qualified to go to Hawaii for a tournament and won 6th out of 24 teams. Remarkable! Congratulations to Arno!!! Michael took us all out to dinner at Jason's Deli afterward. He got a corned beef sandwich that rivaled Carnegie Deli in Manhattan and they have complimentary ice cream. We'll be back.

Friday, August 1st: Wanda and Irv pick Grace up at school and there is a big day planned. First, the fire station. Cam has taught Grace all the fire safety but doesn't have the ladder to get out from upstairs in case of fire and didn't know where to get it so ask a fireman. Who had the most fun... Irv or Grace? Of course, the fireman was so gracious to put Grace in the fire truck driver's seat, turn on the flashers, show her the oxygen masks plus the kitchen. Grace wanted to know if the fireman slept in PJ's or their clothes. Wanda had told Grace the story of the famous fire truck in Laurel, MD that was huge and lime green so was named "The Big Pickle". So... she named the trucks "Tomato and Apple" Of course, we didn't have the camera so we have to go back. Wanda is going to try to arrange for them to bring the fire truck to Grace's school.

Fun #2: On to the YMCA where we sign Grace up as a family member so she can swim, take classes and be in class while Grandma and Grandpa work out. She is intrigued by the climbing wall which she can learn to climb at age 5.

Fun #3: This is for Grandpa... we toured a golf course near Cam's house so Irv and play while Wanda is helping Cam and/or both Irv and Cam can play. She hasn't played since college but would love to play with him. Unfortunately, Grace told us that Cam used to play golf but couldn't now because she is a mother! This is a championship 18 hole and 9 hole par 3 course with driving range, putting green and practice sand traps. Irv was a little put off by the sign, "Beware of poisonous snakes and bees". I told him snakes won't bother you if you don't bother them, just don't hit your ball in the woods or near the water. Of course, we had to go in the clubhouse for ice cream.

Saturday, August 2nd: Today Wanda and Irv head up to Cedartown,GA where Wanda was born to visit her mother's best friend's last remaining relative and her family. We'll go take at look at the house where Wanda lived the first 5 years of her life if it's still them. On the way back we are invited to daughter, Julie's for dinner. Tonight Emily and Kelly return home from their mission trip in Atlanta. I want to share a little of Emily's letter to us about this trip with you.

"Hello, I am so excited to let you know that I am attending a mission trip this month and will be traveling to the far away and exotic city of Atlanta. This may not seem like much of a trip but Atlanta opens up entirely new cultures that are not at all evident in the suburbs. This originated when my friend, Katie and I talked to our youth pastor about getting involved in more service projects and possibly right here in Atlanta. God laid a verse of scripture on Katie's and my hearts completely separate but simultaneously. This is the same thought my friend had. Acts 1:8, "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth". This verse was a Bible verse from the pastor's sermon during Sunday School. I interpret it as Atlanta is my Jerusalem, Georgia and the United States are my Judea and Samaria, and Montreal (I went there on a mission trip last summer) or other countries are my "ends of the earth". We will be sleeping at Safehouse Organization. It is not a homeless shelter but helps people get back on their feet. We will serve dinners and lead services. One day we will be "homeless for a day" and another we will take our lunch and an extra to share with someone on the streets to eat and share Jesus with them. Please pray for us every day that God will use us to touch others.

So Wanda closes with thanksgiving to God for such girls who give up their time on assignment from God.
