Monday, July 21st: Our daughter-in-law, Cam took us to Cosco so we can share bulk items that neither of us could use by ourselves. She'll take us back Friday to get our own cards on their business account so we can shop without her. It was so much fun. Cam and Irv kept up a conversation... "do you like this or would you like some of this?" It was great! Cosco is near the Perimeter (Atlanta's beltway) and we are constantly amazed at the beautiful buildings. I don't think there is an ugly building yet!
Afternoon begins our trip to Cleveland, GA to visit Ron and Barbara Graham, friends from Laurel, MD who were transferred to Marietta, GA years ago and retired on 8 acres with 1/2 mile frontage on the Chattahoochee River where they built a beautiful 2 story home designed by their daughter, Tracy with an in ground pool inside the house. Tracy lives next door in her own house with husband and daughter and the next house is Barbara's mother's home. OK... up the road north we go (thank you GPS). The last 4-5 miles is on a gravel road that dead ends at their concrete driveway. This is like a movie. At the beginning of the driveway is a log cabin which is a little girl's playhouse and a front porch where her father plays his banjo and watches the river's flow. The river is about 30-50 feet below the houses. Ron built two gazebos by the river. Barbara said when the river flooded, the water got to the roof of the gazebo. It is so beautiful and tranquil. At least as tranquil as our lake! It was so good to see them again and renew our friendship and make plans to be together again.
Wednesday, July 23rd: Wanda and Irv pick up granddaughter, Emily to ride with her as she practices on her car with manual transmission. We drove to lunch (break for us), her school and to Brusters (ice cream break) then to Borders (break for us). She will learn but right now she still kills the engine and shakes your head like a bobble head doll. We will help her again next week.
Thursday, July 24th: Today is the real birthday! Michael, Cam and Grace take us to dinner at Longhorn Steak House (Irv's choice) for his birthday. Little Grace loves birthdays!!! We picked her up at school and the first words out of her mouth was Happy Birthday. Cam said when she woke up the first words were, "Today is Irv's birthday". We get seated at the restaurant and before the server could give us menus, Grace asked her, "Can we get a cake with candles, it's my Grandpa's birthday?". As my gift, I got tickets for the famous Fox Theater Coca Cola Summer Series Movies. I chose Iron Man. It had a good review in the NY Times. To just attend anything at the Fox is an event. Look it up on http://www.foxtheater.com/. Anyway, prior to the movie there is a sing-a-long with the beautiful theater organ followed by a Classic Cartoon just like when Irv was a boy and rode the streetcar to downtown Baltimore to the Hippodrone Theater. This is on August 8th so the birthday goes on and of course, his football tickets for the Falcons and Colts are in August.
Saturday, July 26th: Wanda's first do almost nothing and read a book, perfect day since we arrived in GA. Awaking around 6:45am to head outside to my favorite easy chair with my coffee and Bible. The only sound is the birds welcoming the day with their singing.
Irv joins me with his coffee and shortly after we have our first cooked outside bacon and egg breakfast. What a treat! Always tastes better outside where we smell the bacon cooking... you can really work up an appetite.
Wanda's only chore is to clean and vacuum the car. The same guy who cleaned the coach in June detailed the car and it will be kept clean... famous last words.
Wanda's exercise was walking up the hill 45+ degree angle and around the campground being a nosey neighbor. We in fact do have the best spot in the campground.
Dinner is Hot Dogs on the grill... Wanda's favorite. After dinner we noticed a squirrel putting small branches into a nest in a tree. Never saw that before. Our music is the birds and our entertainment is the squirrels, ducks and fish making circles eating the bugs. Tranquility! Wanda noticed that on our patio about 20+/- feet above the tree bases, it makes one feel like we are in a private tree fort like Swiss Family Robinson.
We put in a call to Emily who took her driving test today in her mother's automatic transmission car and passed, of course.
Irv and Wanda are in the coach, A/C on with a good western starring Kenny Rogers so I'll say Goodnight and God Bless You.
