Saturday, May 1, 2010 dawns glorious and sunny. What do you expect in the keys?
As soon as we've hooked the KIA to the coach, it's goodbye time with Sharon, Arno and Lucas. I was so surprised... Lucas was heartbroken in tears so much so that he couldn't bring himself to say good-bye. He was fine when we had to leave for a week so the sewer could be put in. So with sadness in our hearts and knowing how much we are going to miss HIM (oh, Sharon and Arno also)we head north.
Our first stop always is Cracker Barrel in Homestead for breakfast... pecan pancakes from the children's menu. Cracker Barrel lets children of all ages choose from that menu. There were sooooo many people. We don't see that many people in the keys... and the "noise" of people talking. We were like, Wow!!!
Onward through the brick streets of Homestead onto The Tamiami Trail (Highway 41) to Collier State Park in Naples which is a historic park created by the CCC workers during the depression, home to the "big Scoop" used to dig out a path/road from Tampa to Miami (The Tamiami Trail). Mr. Collier was the creator of the trail and preserver of the land for rare Royal Palms which still stand in the park. We took the pictures for Lucas. He is in love with road machinery... scoops!!!
A surprise blessing... had no idea we were only 8 miles from Marco Island noted in the top 10 most pricey places to live that's worth it!!! Irv found a great out of the way, on the water restaurant in a condo complex that served the best fish with Caribbean seasoning. With an over-full tummy, we walked along the water looking at the yachts owned by residents in the condo then took a drive and gaped at all the homes and condos that are so beautiful.
The beginning and end of Day One... and it was good!!!
